Cummins Injector Replacement Cost in Canada: 2026 Prices
Quick answer

In Canada, six remanufactured common rail injectors for a 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins run about $2,690 to $4,330 in parts, plus a $1,200 refundable core charge and a day of shop labour. One new Bosch injector for a 2019 or newer 6.7 costs $1,326.95 on its own. Replace all six at once, fit new connecting tubes, and have each injector code programmed into the computer.

TL;DR
  • Budget $2,690 to $4,330 CAD in parts for six reman injectors, more for new Bosch units
  • Core charges run $200 per injector, $1,200 for six, refunded when the old ones go back
  • BD Diesel Canada sells a full 6.7 install kit, six injectors plus lines and Bosch tubes, for $4,328.95
  • A full set takes a shop 5 to 8 hours. Get the flat rate in writing first
  • Always fit new connecting tubes and program each injector code into the computer

Your truck started talking to you this morning, and you have been trying not to listen.

Maybe it is a knock that was not there last week. Maybe she blows a white haze on a cold start and the idle has gone lumpy, like an old dog breathing hard in its sleep. Or maybe you pulled the dipstick and the oil smells like diesel fuel, which is the engine telling you plain as day that an injector is leaking.

I have been building diesel engines for forty years on a farm in Saskatchewan, where the nearest dealer is an hour down a gravel road. Here is the straight answer on Cummins injector replacement cost in Canada, in real Canadian dollars, from Canadian shops. No guessing.

Cummins injector prices in Canada

Let us start with the numbers, because that is why you are here. Every price below is in Canadian dollars, from Canadian diesel shops, as listed this fall.

For the 5.9 common rail, the 2003 to 2007 trucks, a remanufactured stock injector runs about $448 apiece. BD Diesel sells their BD Built stock reman for $447.95, with a $200 refundable core on top. Diesel Parts Canada in Edmonton lists complete six injector sets for these trucks at $3,330 to $3,720 plus core.

For the 6.7, the 2007.5 to 2012 trucks, BD Diesel Canada sells an all in one install kit with six reman injectors, new injector lines, and six genuine Bosch connecting tubes for $4,328.95, plus a $1,200 refundable core. That is the smart way to buy them, because the tubes come in the box. The 2013 to 2018 trucks are a little kinder: BD Built stock remans run $509.95 apiece, which is $3,059.70 for the set. And if you own a 2019 or newer 6.7 and you want brand new genuine Bosch injectors, sit down: $1,326.95 each from BD Diesel Canada, which is $7,961.70 for all six before anybody turns a wrench.

If you still drive a 12 valve, bless you, your injectors are a different animal entirely. Simple mechanical units, about $157.49 each new from Diesel Parts Canada in Edmonton. The common rail trucks are the expensive ones, and that is the price of precision.

The core charge on Cummins injectors

Here is the part that surprises people at the parts counter. Nearly every reman injector carries a core charge, and you pay it up front. On a 5.9 injector the core is $200. On the 6.7 units it runs about $200 each as well. On a full set of six, expect $1,200 sitting on your credit card until the cores go back. You get every penny back when you send your old injectors in, but only if they come back complete and not cracked or full of water. Box them up the day they come out, keep them dry, and ship them back quick.

Replace one injector or all six

This is the question I get asked across the workbench, and I will give you the same answer I give everybody.

Injectors wear as a set. They have all drunk the same fuel and pulled the same loads, so when one starts sticking or leaking, the other five are tired too. I know it stings to buy six when only one is misbehaving, but the labour to open the engine up is nearly the same whether the mechanic changes one injector or all six.

The only time I will change a single injector is on a young truck with low kilometres where one unit failed early and the rest test clean. Otherwise, do the set. Your future self, the one not paying for a second tow, will thank you.

Reman vs new Cummins injectors

A good reman injector is not a used injector. The reputable builders take a genuine Bosch core, strip it down, and fit a brand new nozzle, a new control valve, and new seals, then test it on a proper Bosch bench through its full operating range. That is a real injector, not a cleaned up core with fresh paint.

New genuine Bosch is the dearest option and the safest one, especially on the 2019 and newer trucks where the tolerances are tightest. What I will not put in any engine I care about is a no name injector at a price that seems too good to be true. I have pulled those out of trucks with 20,000 kilometres on them. Buy from a builder with a real warranty and a real test bench.

Cummins injector labour in Canada

A practiced mechanic can do all six injectors in five to seven hours on a 6.7, closer to eight on a 5.9. A single injector is a two to three hour job, which lines up with the install time the builders print on their own pages, but you rarely want just one.

If you are doing it yourself in the yard, know that the hold down bolts take a two step torque: 44 inch pounds to seat the injector, then a final 89 inch pounds on the 5.9 or 71 on the 6.7, with the connector tube nuts at 37 foot pounds. Get those wrong and you will be chasing leaks.

Shop rates move around a lot in this country. What a diesel shop bills per hour in Regina is not what one bills in Toronto. Call ahead, describe the job exactly, and ask for the flat quote in writing before they start. Ask whether it includes new connecting tubes, new seals, and programming the injector codes. If any of those are missing, it is not a complete quote.

While you are in there: tubes and filters

Two things, and I am firm on both.

First, new connecting tubes. Those tubes are the number one killer of brand new injectors. Old tubes hold debris that murders a fresh injector on startup, and most builders will void your warranty if you reuse them. The full set kits include six new Bosch tubes for exactly this reason. Do not skip them to save a few dollars.

Second, fuel filters. Dirty fuel is what kills injectors in the first place, and a fresh set of injectors deserves clean fuel from day one. Fit quality filters, and if you want my full sermon on which ones to buy, I wrote it up here: fuel filters, OEM versus aftermarket.

Signs your Cummins injectors are done

Now the part I care about most. Before you spend a dollar, listen to the engine. The computer will eventually throw a code, maybe, if it feels like it. Your ears work every time.

A failing injector talks. The idle goes rough and lumpy. Cold starts get long and cranky. You see white or grey haze at startup that clears as she warms. The engine develops a sharp knock, one cylinder hammering harder than the rest. Your fuel mileage falls off for no reason. And the big one: the oil level on the dipstick starts climbing, and the oil smells like diesel. That means an injector is leaking fuel into the crankcase, and you should not drive it that way. Fuel thinned oil does not protect bearings.

If you want the deeper story on how these engines age and what else to watch, read how the 6.7 holds up over time. And if your hard starts only happen when it is forty below, the trouble might be winter, not injectors: winter diesel survival guide.

Cummins injector codes must be programmed

Every common rail injector has a correction code stamped on its body, unique to that injector, usually a short alphanumeric string you read off with your eyes and a good light. Each code has to be entered into the engine computer with a scan tool so the fueling stays balanced across all six cylinders.

I will be honest with you: I do not love computers on engines. But this step is not optional. Skip it and the truck will idle rough and run uneven, and you will be chasing your tail. Any diesel shop worth the name does this as part of the job. If you are doing it yourself in the yard, you need a scan tool that can write injector codes.

From the shop: A neighbour of mine, good farmer, stubborn as a fence post, drove his 2006 for the better part of a month with the oil level creeping up the dipstick. "She still pulls fine, Earl," he told me. We pulled the injectors and number four was stuck open, pouring fuel into that cylinder every cycle, the oil thin as kerosene. He was one long pull away from spinning a bearing. Six new injectors, new tubes, fresh oil, and that truck is still on his farm today. Listen to the engine, boys. She tells you everything if you let her.

What I would do

If it were my truck, and it has been often enough, here is the order of operations.

Buy a matched set of six reman injectors from a reputable builder, BD Diesel or Industrial Injection or genuine Bosch reman, with new connecting tubes in the box. Budget $2,690 to $4,330 in parts for the 5.9 or the 2007.5 to 2018 6.7, more for new Bosch on a 2019 or newer. Set the core charge money aside and send the old injectors back the same week.

Have a diesel shop do the work unless you are well set up at home, get the flat quote in writing, and make sure injector code programming is included. Fit fresh fuel filters. Then drive it and listen. A fresh set of injectors on a Cummins is one of the great satisfactions in this trade: she will idle like she did the day she left the factory and start on the first crank in January.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to replace injectors on a 6.7 Cummins in Canada?

For a 2013 to 2018 truck, six remanufactured injectors run about $3,060 in parts, or $4,330 for the all in one kit with new connecting tubes, before the $1,200 refundable core charge and labour. New genuine Bosch injectors for a 2019 or newer 6.7 run $1,326.95 each, or $7,961.70 for the set. Shop labour for the full job is typically most of a day.

Should you replace all six Cummins injectors at once?

Yes, in most cases. Injectors wear as a set, and when one starts leaking or sticking, the other five are usually not far behind. Paying for the labour twice costs more than the injectors you saved by doing one.

Do new Cummins injectors need to be programmed?

Yes. Every common rail injector carries a correction code stamped on its body. That code must be entered into the engine computer with a scan tool so fueling stays balanced across all six cylinders. Skip this step and the truck will run rough.

Can you drive with a bad fuel injector?

Not for long. A leaking injector washes raw fuel past the rings and thins the engine oil, which can spin a bearing in short order. A sticking injector can also over fuel one cylinder hard enough to damage a piston. If the dipstick smells like diesel, park the truck until it is fixed.

How long do Cummins injectors last?

On clean, well filtered fuel, many owners see 150,000 to 250,000 kilometres out of a set. Neglected fuel filters and water in the fuel can kill them far earlier. Hard starting, a rough idle, and a rising oil level are the usual signs the end is near.

Does the injector replacement quote include programming?

It should, but not every quote lists it separately. Ask the shop outright whether injector code programming, new connecting tubes, and new seals are included in the price before they start. A quote missing any of those is not a complete quote.
