Tire Service & Changing Technician
Keep Light Trucks and Commercial Fleets Moving Safely with Essential Wheel Maintenance
Build a Practical Career as a Tire & Wheel Specialist
Tires are the single most important point of contact between any vehicle and the road. Whether it is a daily driver or a commercial heavy-duty truck hauling freight, proper tires keep drivers safe and cargo moving efficiently. At HD Diesel Supply, our tire service team is vital to maintaining vehicle safety and fleet performance.
We are seeking a reliable, physically fit, and enthusiastic Tire Service & Changing Technician to join our shop crew full-time. If you enjoy working with power tools, like fixing real mechanical problems with your hands, and want a steady career path in the automotive and fleet maintenance industry, this opportunity is ideal for you!
Mastering Pneumatic Tire Changing Equipment
In this role, you will work directly with specialized tire machines to mount and demount tires on steel and aluminum rims. You will learn how to safely break tire beads, lubricate rims, and install new tread without scratching sensitive wheel surfaces.
Whether servicing light passenger trucks or commercial units, you will master pneumatically operated tire changers, bead seaters, and tire levers to complete smooth, fast installations.
Precision Dynamic Wheel Balancing
A mounted tire is only half the job—proper balancing prevents high-speed vibration and extends tire life. You will operate digital wheel balancers to identify imbalance points down to the gram.
You will place clip-on or adhesive wheel weights accurately along rim edges to ensure every tire rolls smoothly down the highway, improving ride comfort and fuel economy.
Hands-On Paid Skill Training Included
Prior experience with commercial tire machines or pneumatic impact guns is helpful, but not required! We provide step-by-step safety and operational training so you can build valuable trade skills right on the shop floor.
Flat Repairs, Tread Inspection & Maintenance
Drivers rely on fast, dependable puncture repairs. You will inspect damaged tires for nails, screws, and sidewall defects using air-leak dunk tanks and pressure gauges.
You will perform professional interior tire patching and plugging according to industry standards, inspect tread depth gauges, and evaluate tire wear patterns to detect alignment issues.
Torque Safety & Workshop Power Tools
Safety comes first when working with pneumatic tools and wheel fasteners. You will use pneumatic impact wrenches to remove lug nuts quickly and safely inflate tires using safety cages.
Every wheel reinstallation finishes with a calibrated torque wrench check to ensure lug nuts are tightened to exact manufacturer foot-pound specifications, preventing dangerous loose-wheel situations.
Daily Key Responsibilities
Here is what your daily routine will include as our tire service technician:
- Mount & Demount Tires: Safely change light vehicle and commercial truck tires using shop tire changing machines.
- Dynamic Wheel Balancing: Spin-balance assemblies and apply lead-free weights for smooth performance.
- Puncture & Flat Repairs: Dismount tires to patch leaks internally and re-seal beads.
- Perform Safety Inspections: Measure tread depth, check air pressures, and inspect rims for cracks or bends.
- Safe Vehicle Jacking: Safely position floor jacks, jack stands, and pneumatic lifts under vehicles.
- Torque Checks: Finalize all installations with torque wrenches according to spec sheets.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualities:
- Physical Capability: Able to lift heavy tires (50-75 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
- Comfort with Power Tools: Eager to operate pneumatic impact guns, tire changers, and balancers.
- Strong Attention to Safety: Strict adherence to wheel torquing procedures and protective safety gear.
- Valid Driver’s License: Useful for moving vehicles into service bays (preferred).
- Entry-Level Welcomed: Willingness to work hard and learn the tire trade is what matters most!
